Light and accurate flak was experienced. The bombs walked across the yards and hit a storage tank assumed to be aviation (fuel) as the explosion went up about two thousand feet. Flames were seen rising up to 100 to 200 feet.
April 8, 194S, MI88ION # 14 Today I made my 14th mi~ion over the rail yards at (2elle. We got up at 5 o'clock and had briefing at ~ix and were out to the plane~ at 6:30. We were briefed for po~ible fighter reaction. The Huna had 2,500 available in the area. We were delayed becau~e the bomb line (had] moved up. We finally took off about 9 o'clock. We gained altitude and were at our fighter e~corL We cro~ed the bomb line and headed for our target We caught moderate inaccurate flak between our D.Il. [?] point and the ~rget We made a flak free run on the target and rail yard. We bombed on the fir~ run and made a W48-50 P 49 |
