The following is as an OCR scan which probably has some of the usual OCR 'typos' remaining.
San Antonio was my home while in high school and Junior College. In 1939-41, I was one of the girls at the Sunday afternoon tea dances at the Gunter Hotel. We were recruited from the various service organizations - and their daughters. We had a small ballroom, with chaperones, a small local orchestra, scattered tables, punch and cookie refreshments, no hard liquor allowed. Mostly, the young men were about 17-22. Yes, my husband was flying combat by age 22, and he was the "Pop" in his crew.

Randolph Field was very new then, but San Antonio was an old Army town with Fort Sam Houston, Camp Bulls, and innumerable large and small airfields. San Antonio was known as the "mother-in-law of the Army", and especially after Randolph started graduating so many flying cadets, with their new wings. We were Army Air Corps then.

Jack was a Bombardier/Navigator in the 453rd Bomb Sqdn, 323rd Bomb Group, had 70 missions before he became a Navigator for the OSS - unarmed planes but still being shot at. That taste in OSS sent him into Intelligence after the war; total military time 32 years. He was one of the enlisted Bombardiers throughout the war, mainly because he was already in combat when the rules were changed for those still in the US.

I am enclosing two pictures of my wedding dress. While Jack was an Air Mechanic, he gave me a "flare 'chute", from which I made my wedding dress, such lovely gossamer silk. It was then worn by my sister, our daughter, our niece, and being fitted for a son's bride, when It was stolen.
